Why most LinkedIn thought leaders sound the same — and how to fix it
Why most LinkedIn thought leaders sound the same
Scroll through any LinkedIn feed and you'll notice something: the same recycled frameworks, the same motivational platitudes, the same AI-generated bullet points.
The reason is simple — most people are working from the same shallow inputs. Same trending topics, same surface-level takes, same prompts fed into the same models.
The tier-1 source advantage
The founders and operators who actually build an audience do something different. They reference primary sources: academic papers, SEC filings, proprietary data, expert interviews. Content grounded in original research is inherently differentiated.
How to stand out
- Start with a non-obvious source. Instead of commenting on a trend, find the research paper or dataset behind it.
- Add your operational context. The combination of original data + your lived experience is impossible to replicate.
- Be specific. "We increased retention 23% by changing our onboarding email sequence" beats "5 tips for better retention" every time.
The bar for thought leadership is actually very low right now — precisely because so much content is AI-generated slop. Real expertise, backed by real sources, stands out more than ever.
